Close and Lock the Door!

Close and Lock the Door!

Eric Tschachler

Did you ever watch a paranormal show and see people keeping certain doors closed? They want to contain “something in there” or prevent “something out there” from getting in. Did you ever wonder why a discarnate being couldn’t simply bypass a physical barrier? Perhaps the people doing this are delusional or quite scared. I used to feel this way, but I think there is 2 ways of looking at this….

1) The dead that don’t know they’re dead. If a spirit of a deceased human died unexpectedly, they may be unaware of their predicament. For these entities, most of the basic rules of the physical realm still hold sway. They respect the idea that a closed and locked door cannot be easily breached. This may explain some of the instances of spirits deterred by doors, but I think there is a more plausible reason (see #2 below).

2) Mental Doors. We must take into consideration what doors mean to us. When we close and lock a door, we are mentally closing ourselves off from the “other side” (whatever that may be). In occultism, many traditions cast a circle, prior to magical rituals, in order to protect themselves from any influences that may suddenly decide to do the participants harm. To the waking consciousness, physical doors are no different. They are mental/emotional barriers as well as physical barriers. If you have ever had the unfortunate experience of being burglarized, then you know not only the feeling of physical loss but the feeling that you have been violated in a much deeper sense. Why? Because the boundary that you set was violated without your consent. If we are closing doors to keep non-physical entities out (or in), we are setting up an emotional barrier as well. This energetic barrier is what is keeping entities at bay. In our lives, emotional and mental maneuvers are often prompted by sympathetic physical acts. If you have a relationship that ends, you may tear up photos of your ex, or when a loved one passes away, you may decide to burn some of their possessions. The physical acts are just the link to an emotional or mental task that has a distinct purpose.

So close and lock your doors. Sleep with your head under the covers. Whatever. There may be actual merit in those things after all.
